Black&Blue Blonde is a Quad-City based modern jazz duo. The group incorporates electronics, computers and improvisation in their pieces. Their original songs range in genre from Jazz to R&B to Funk. Their all-ages-appropriate shows blend the old with the new, "to improve the mood and stimulate the groove."
Frank Drew plays saxaphone and flute for Black&Blue Blonde. He uses his background in many other instruments to develop the music for the group. Formerly a frequent funk performer in Springfield, and formerly in The Steady Rollin' Blues Band and The Funktastic Five. His free-flowing, expressive style is the motor for the group's music.
Joanie Mercy is the violinist and vocalist for Black&Blue Blonde. She has performed classically with many orchestras in the Midwest including the Quad-City Symphony, the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra and the Moody Blues Quad-City Tour. She is also a veteran of jazz & blues, mixing classical techniques with things "you're not supposed to do on the violin." She uses a battery of digital effects to make her musical points.
The group's vocals are sometimes silky, sometimes gritty, but always sexy. Their first all-original CD is due out Fall 2005.
