Boris & Tony is a refreshing and energetic duo that performs a mix of Jazz Standards, Vintage Pop, and Brazilian tunes. The compatibility and delightful interplay between these two consummate musicians, Boris Arratia on guitar and Tony Sconyers on vocals, creates a compelling listening experience.
Guitarist Boris Arratia is a rhythmic and lyrical dynamo whose contribution fills the lead, base line and percussion. Boris started playing the guitar in his native Venezuela with an early affection for Classical, Latin, and Jazz melodies and rhythms. His development and love for the instrument span over decades of performing as soloist, accompanist, and band leader in Venezuela and the USA.
The musical, lyrical, and melodic approach of Johnny Hartman, Frank Sinatra, and Al Jarreau have had an unmistakable influence on Tony Sconyers and are cornerstones of his singing style. As a native Chicagoan, Tony was involved early in his life with a vibrant and diverse musical scene which produced many of the USA's Jazz and Blues legends. Tony's singing has evolved over decades of training and experience while performing in multiple genres and settings to include Gospel, Pop, and Jazz.
In their different cultures, Boris and Tony admired many of the same musicians, including Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Stevie Wonder, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Nat King Cole. This duo provides acoustic Jazz with a folk sensibility. Boris Arratia (guitarist) and Tony Sconyers (vocalist) create an acoustic landscape that encourages both mind and soul to relax and take a break.
Tony Sconyers' rich baritone voice floats around you, while at the same time guides you along a musical journey. The journey is a blend of contemporary music and old standards.
Boris Arratia's acoustic guitar style is more than accompaniment. Every note has its own purpose and direction that adds depth to the overall sound.
