Mixers September 3rd, 2004

It all started when I went to Mixers a few weeks ago. I went in there expecting to be bored with loud puke on your shoes rock and roll. I was surprised and amazed to see these gargantuan guitar guys onstage doing a mix of classic guitar instrumentals as well as stuff they themselves had written. The One Night Standards amazed me.

Three guys really enjoying what they were doing. They played the hell out of their axes completely engulfed in the task of entertaining the crowd. I have never witnessed such energy from fat guys before in my life. I say this without malice because I myself am a fat guy. This crowd of beer swillin’ pussy-chasing assholes were actually noticing these boys. Sorry, no offense intended.

The One Night Standards had the crowd well in hand. I spent the next few hours enthralled by the skill with which they performed. I wanted more. - Dale Mayne

Hunter's Club September 27th, 2004

My vantage point had its drawbacks, as I couldn’Äôt see the band. But what I heard was pure fun and frantic fanaticism. Those smoking sweating guitar gargantuans had done it again. The crowd was listening to and diggin’Äô on what they heard. I found out later that Chicken Boy destroyed his bass guitar during the first song. [He broke a string and smashed it in true rock-star style. The crowd went wild!] A fellow musician, who lent his bass to the guitar smashin’Äô lady-killer known as Chicken Boy, saved the day. [Jeff Loder from Head Held High.] - Dale Mayne

"On Saturday night The One Night Standards were just setting up when I got there. Those three guys can really play a crowd! Scott Haut (aka Scott Standard) plays one mean guitar! He runs through two Fender 2x12 Devilles and multiple analog effects, the most prevalent being REVERB! He rips out some stellar leads and is quite a showman! From his witty banter with the crowd, to his slide guitar with a lit Zippo, this guy keeps you riveted. If you get tired of watching him, don't worry. Gary will keep you interested. He plays with more energy than any drummer I have ever seen! He beats the living daylights out of those drums. He reminds me of Animal of the Muppet's! He mixes things up, and takes rockabilly beats to a supersonic level. Last, but not least, is the amazing Erik "Chicken Boy" Kranz. Is there anything this guy can't do? The original "Rock Island Playboy" knows how to lay down the rockabilly funk!" - Terry Johnson
