"Scott Hayes at Sam's Take Time July 30, 2005: The place is too small for Live Entertainment-but... the atmosphere was friendly and casual, and the 22-Ounce bottles of Bud Lite made it worthwhile... and I caught a unique solo artist by the name of Scott Hayes. When Scott first started playing my view was somewhat obstructed. I thought I heard a drum machine, and it appeared as though Scott was playing bass. (Because of his right hand and thumb rising and falling in a slapping manner.) I secured a better position and realized Scott was playing percussion live, striking his acoustic in alternating positions, while playing a series of hammer-ons and pull-offs in between, all in perfect synchronization. To top that, his voice was pleasant, expressive, and well, just good. The style reminded me somewhat of a Dave Matthews influenced blend, musically, vocally, and lyrically speaking. When Scott played chords they weren't of the open-string variety, it appeared he was playing broken and alternate position chords at locations further down the neck, very pleasing to the ear. Scott mixed a variety of tunes from lesser-known covers to his very impressive originals. It was apparent Scott knew how to close his set, offering up a very well-done rendition of "Walking in Memphis" a more familiar yet not-tired tune that had the crowd singing along. I can't remember the last time I have been so entertained by a solo artist. Scott Hayes offers a refreshing departure from your run of the mill solo-acts, and promises to bring a bright future on the horizon of local acoustic music." - Steve McFate, Adminstrator of qcmusicians.com 8-1-05
