"Chicago Style Jazz is unique and for the most part, unheard of in
Eastern Iowa. Unlike "Swing" or "Dixieland", Chicago Style is defined
with a strong two or four beat rhythm set behind a melody that is free
to explore and expand. Scott Silver grew up in Chicago and moved to Iowa
in 2001. He brings with him over 25 years of professional experience
performing with some of Chicago's best traditional jazz bands. After
settling in LeClaire, Scott was able to find local musicians who knew
and understood what the Chicago Style was all about. Members of the
Scott Silver's Chicago Jazz Quintet are all professional musicians and
present themselves as such. The usual Quintet is comprised of the finest
"trad" musicians Iowa has to offer. Scott Morschuaser-Vibraphone; Jim
Valentine-Clarinet; Ronald Madow-Upright Bass; Josh Duffee-Drums; Scott
Silver-Guitar. The group plays tunes from the early 1920's (sometimes
earlier) to the early 1940's (sometimes later). They are an "Acoustic"
band and use minimal, if any amplification. Selections of music are from
the early Benny Goodman Quintet, Django Reinhardt, Thomas "Fats" Waller,
Jack Teagarten, Eddie Condon, and of course Bix Beiderbecke to name just
a few. The Quintet presents itself in the true style of early Chicago
Jazz bands with a laid back, warm, and easy going manner."

Press
Scott Silver looked over the crowd during his group's regular Monday night gig at Youngstown Cafe in Davenport and smiled. When his Scott Silver's Chicago Jazz Band first played at the north Davenport coffeehouse and cafe, it would play for only a dozen people. But this past Monday, the crowd had grown to standing room only. To top it all off, the audience gave the band a standing ovation at the end of its two-hour set. "I look at (bass player) Ron Madow and he just looked at me and I looked at him and I asked, 'What did we do?'" Silver said. "He said, 'I don't know, we just played.' It was a wonderful night." - David Burke
