Dustin Cobb at the Other Side

"The Strange Neighbors family was founded in 1994 and has a rich history of talented musicians. It's not uncommon for the band to grow to a seven piece for a tour adding in a B-3 organ, piano, saxophone, flute, extra percussionists or even back-up singers. Dustin Cobb, a founding member and song writer for the band has a natural ability for attracting unique and talented musicians. This unique brotherhood of musicians has helped the Strange Neighbors carve themselves a solid groove in the Midwestern music scene."

Press

Some Strange Neighbors have moved into the Quad-Cities. But rather than lugging pink flamingos, pictures of dogs playing cards and life-sized plastic figures of Elvis, they come bearing groovy tunes.

Local band and Passion Flower Records artist Strange Neighbors has become one of the top draws in the area with its groove-rock sound. The band's long, jammy, somewhat psychedelic shows have cemented a cultish following, especially among area college students into bands like Rusted Root, the Dave Matthews Band and the Grateful Dead.

Together for almost six years, the band also perform around the Quad-Cities as Seven Feet of Hair, when they feel like going acoustic. But when they plug in, they're transformed into Strange Neighbors.

In 1996, they released "From In Here," a CD offering a representative sample of the group's work. Available at local Musicland and CoOp Records shops, it's gone on to become one of the top-selling albums from a local act.

The CD itself is a nice blend of both sounds, featuring melodic rock that's not too heavy, not too light. Think Extreme meets the Allman Brothers meets Primus and you're in the right musical territory.

The group is preparing to go back into the studio soon to record a follow-up, but in the meantime they're continuing to play area clubs and build on a base of fans that has been steadily growing. - Sean Leary
