Commentary
Most of my friends wished there were more rock acts and less country acts. Here are three outstanding comments from the qcmusicians.com message board that put things in perspective:
"They have to stick with Country music because it's misleading. It gets translated into American red, white, and blue conservative family safe entertainment. Then attend a show and you see the true colors. It's as sweaty, drunken, raunchy, and adult as rockers. If they hired rockers - lets pull some oldies out of retirement that the fair could afford - say Nazareth, BOC, Extreme, Living Color, or even Faith No More, most people would think the fair was too rough. I think those Fun passes are a fair deal. If you can take the enviroment, you can see several live national acts for $30. It cost me $45 for my Greenday ticket at The Mark. That's 1 band, no rides, no animal acts, and no funnelcakes." - Catzodellamarina
"I talked to one of the Board members about having another rock act during the week. Remember though, the Fair Board is full of the older generation who enjoy country, and honestly, the country acts bring in thousands more people than the rock acts. We live in Iowa folks. That's the way it is." - PodCandy
"I wanted to see a couple of the bands but I don't care for the enviroment and sound in the grandstand area. Neither does my family anymore. My daughter was so excited to see Big n' Rich. My wife took her and when they got in they were shoved around by sweaty shirtless drunks, had cig smoke blowing in their faces, and people talked and socialized the whole time. It disgusted my daughter and within 30 min she said, 'We can go anytime you want mom.' I felt badly for her. She was looking forward to a nice concert. Seems the grandstand should be labeled 'This area not suitable for family functions.' I think both kids learned not to go back there." - Catzodellamarina
