MVBS Monthly Blues Show
The shows will be from 9-1 the first Saturday of each month.
It has been over three years since the MVBS last held its monthly shows at O'Meara's Pub in Bettendorf and yet there are many fond memories of those shows. The series began in January of 1998 to help support local blues bands. The MVBS shows at O'Meara's continued until June of 2002 and included many memorable performances that packed the house in the cozy Bettendorf saloon. The series ended when O'Meara's closed later that year and was eventually demolished to help make way for an ambitious vision for downtown Bettendorf renewal, which apparently still has a ways to go.
At the time the MVBS monthly shows at O'Meara's concluded, there was an abundance of blues shows in the Quad Cities area. Numerous clubs presented weekend performances with local bands. There was always a desire within the Events Committee to continue the monthly shows elsewhere, but there did not seem to be an immediate need to do so with so much activity already at local clubs. There was also the matter of agreeing on a club to partner with.
Many area clubs were considered over the past few years. Many of those clubs that had been the most active in presenting live blues performances have either closed completely or changed ownership and focus and no longer present live music.
Since the MVBS Events Committee established the Village Pub Tour in the Village of East Davenport and has had an opportunity to work together with Mound Street Landing, there appeared to be a mutual interest in doing more live blues shows there. The club has had ongoing success presenting live music and is the site of the former Crawdaddy's, the setting for many legendary blues performances and MVBS events in the past. We are very excited to establish this relationship with Mound Street Landing and look forward to working with them to present a slate of quality live blues entertainment each month. We hope you'll join us at Mound Street Landing to usher in this new series of MVBS performances. - Mississippi Valley Blues Society News
